Tryfon J. Koutalidis (25/10/1934 - 20/03/2012)
Tryfon Koutalidis, son of a lawyer, was born in 1934. He obtained an LL.B and a PhD in Law from the University of Athens, as well as an LL.M in Aviation Law from the University of London.
A legal practitioner since 1959 and author of a considerable amount of publications, Tryfon Koutalidis was a pioneer in legal advisory and business-oriented advocacy in Athens and the founder of one of the biggest law firms in Greece with a significant presence in national and international transactions. He served as the personal counsel of Aristotle Onasis, legal advisor and, thereafter, twice, as Chairman of the Board of Directors of Olympic Airlines. He also served as counsel to the former Prime Minister and President of Greece, Konstantinos Karamanlis and to the owner of the Lambrakis Press Group, Christos Lambrakis.
For decades, he was a member of the Board of Directors of Lambrakis Press Group, as well as a member of the Board of Directors of other companies and foundations. Moreover, he served as a vice Chairman of Emporiki Bank and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Geniki Bank. Through regular articles published in the newspaper “to VIMA” under the nickname “Papinianos” Tryfon Koutalidis engaged in current legal, social, financial and business events. His book, “The Lawyer”, published in Greek and Spanish, has been viewed not only as a compelling testament of his rich experience in legal practice, but also, as a systematic record of the political, legal and business affairs of modern Greece.
