We’re delighted to share insights from the DDC Financial Group Investor Summit 2025 held in Athens on November 13, where our Partner Effie Papoutsi moderated the panel discussion “Secondaries Rising – Liquidity, Pricing, and Opportunity.”
The panel brought together leading voices from across the European private credit ecosystem to examine how secondary markets are evolving into a critical tool for liquidity management and portfolio optimization.
Key Themes That Emerged
Market Momentum & Investor Appetite – The secondaries market, while still nascent in Greece, is experiencing rapid growth driven by institutional demand for faster deployment and access to quality assets Francesco U. Castellani Tarabini of Generali Asset Management highlighted how LP liquidity needs and GP strategies to retain high-performing assets are reshaping the landscape—with some sponsor-backed deals now trading at premiums in an increasingly competitive market.
Transparency as the New Currency – Marco Angheben from European DataWarehouse emphasized the pivotal role of regulatory developments and data transparency in strengthening Europe’s position. Everyone’s hope is that evolution of EU and UK SECREG frameworks will achieve its goal of facilitating transactions and build investor confidence.
Innovation in Liquidity Engineering – Andreas Papanagiotopoulos of Ellaktor Group shared the corporate treasury perspective on how emerging public-market models are transforming an asset class traditionally viewed as illiquid. The role of technology, from tokenization to smart contracts, is proving essential for valuation consistency and collateral tracking.
Greek Market Opportunities – Nikolaos Vlachakis from doValue Group provided valuable insight into the Greek secondaries landscape, noting the substantial pipeline emerging post-HAPS in both NPL and RPL transactions.
The discussion underscored a clear message: secondary markets are no longer a peripheral exit mechanism but an integral component of modern private credit investment and treasury management.
