Greece’s national FDI screening mechanism is fully operational.

Greece’s national FDI screening mechanism is fully operational.

With the publication of Ministerial Decision No. 64260/2025 (the “MD”), Greece’s national Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) screening mechanism becomes fully operational.

The Decision provides long-awaited clarity for foreign investors and Greek companies engaging in transactions that may fall within the scope of the FDI Law—particularly in sectors sensitive to national security and public order, such as energy, defence, transport, and digital infrastructure. This development means that foreign investors and Greek companies engaging in transactions that meet the criteria set out under the FDI Law can now follow the notification and approval procedure established by the new regime.

The MD is setting out the application form, the supporting documentation for the submission of an investment to the review mechanism, and the submission process. Its publication allows the Secretariat of the FDI Committee to receive and assess FDI notifications.

This is a significant step for Greece, aligning its framework with EU standards and providing a clear process for reviewing foreign investments in strategic sectors.
